Ipad speaker broken

My Ipad 4 WIFI only 32MB speaker stopped working I can get a few sounds from it by putting suction on the charge port, but it doesn't last. Can this be repaired? Thanks.

Contact Apple, if your iPad is still under warranty they are legally obligated to repair or replace it free of charge.

It's long out of warranty, and Apple wants $299 just to look at it.
