Looking for some advice on purchasing a laptop or the Ipad. Personally I feel the Ipad is more of a (Hey its the new thing) deal. I've always been a PC guy so I feel Id be losing alot of functionality with the IPad. Any advice, pro and cons, would be most helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks

To someone who knows the ins and outs of windows software - nothing is easier. BUT, we have no idea what level the user is at...

you're making a dead argument - I got my MCP passing NT Server Enterprise and know exactly what your argument is before you comment - but that's not the topic here, stop turning it into a bashing of words

It's all about what you do on a daily basis and whether this would be your primary device. If you find yourself just browsing the web, viewing media and engaging in various social media portals then the iPad is going to be perfect for you.

Before rebuilding my desktop, I used my iPad for everything but gaming and ripping audio/video files. It's definitely a different experience but it's such a quick way to access web content. I found it incredibly convenient for when on trips because it's big enough to view content and small enough to be easy to carry on the go. I grew so accustomed to the keyboard that typing on a stable surface felt easy.

That being said, I sold my iPad2 before the new version came out to maximize the value of the device. I started to go back to using my phone for on-the-go web browsing and though I missed having a bigger screen, I found I could get my stuff done and didn't feel like I needed my iPad back. I can get everything done quickly from my beastly desktop and don't have to get frustrated by websites being converted to "mobile" format.

I may get an iPad again down the road, but I personally think I would rather have an Ultrabook like the ASUS Zenbook or the Dell XPS13/14. More functionality, same benefits when combined with a SSD.

That's my two cents...

What is easier than clicking on a pop up window with 2-3 options on it? haha.

So instead of "a bashing of words" you want to turn this into a D*ck showing contest? haha. Well then I see your worthless NT Server Enterprise certification and raise you an A+, Network +, Security +, and TERP10 certifications. :kaola:

+1 to Game Junky's post.

ROFL

My point is you're being a _______... and you continue to prove it...

I agree with dingo on the simplicity. You should not assume someone knows how to change different things on a computer. It may seem really easy for most but you never know how "easy" it is for someone else.

well I can see there are alot of opinions out there and it is all very helpful. To answer some of the comments made, My knowledge with pc's is pretty good. And I already have a great pc for gaming so I wouldn't be cutting myself short when it comes to getting an Ipad. Most of the "in depth" commenets made by you all seem to side with the Ipad for my needs. The most concerning for me is the price of an Ipad. $600-$800 for an Ipad. I can get a pretty good LT for that money. So, would it really be worth it tho drop that kind of money into an Ipad? Or should I say, would the "high end" Ipad (64g I think) be a better decicion then say a $6-$800 LT? Thx

I have the WIFI 16GB version of the iPad - and after jailbreaking it, I almost never use my laptop (XPS M1530 with 240GB SSD) when I'm at home. Only when I don't want to sit at my desktop and my wife has the iPad, am I forced to use my laptop at home. We spent $545 (price including taxes) for the iPad, in white, of course!
Let make the point that I only use the iPad to read news on the internet, or kill time with simple game apps. I dload all my stuff via torrents from my iPhone4, and then transfer them via iFile to my laptop to put into iTunes. Very simple procedure that's flawless.

For your intended usage - go with the ipad, or one of the other tablets (some come very close to the ipad at a cost savings.

My wife has a desktop, netbook and an Ipad - She uses the ipad the most, netbook never and desktop for what can not be done on the ipad.

Myself I have a great notebook, and need the functionality of the Notebook (for work). But have to say for that trip on the plane, the tablet is a better choice.

I understand your thoughts - they're definitely not inexpensive and that's one of the reasons I have been holding off getting a new one. I had an iPad2 and was very satisfied with my user experience - screen was bright and more than sufficient for streaming netflix or watching a ripped movie. The new iPad's screen is without a doubt a lot brighter and crisper (my buddy has one), but the iPad2 would be a great device to consider if you can find a deal. If you don't care about getting that white "Apple" box, I would recommend getting a refurb model from Apple. They replace the facial pieces and the battery, they just don't ship it to you in a retail box.

You could also look at an Android tablet - Android OS is very functional and some of them have better performance aspects than the iPad. As long as you're not too married to iOS, I would recommend looking and pricing and try out the iPad vs an Android tablet like the Samsung Galaxy or Transformer Prime.

If I were getting an iPad, I would probably get either the 16GB or 32GB and pickup a wireless hard drive solution if you find yourself needing more room when you travel. I think WD has the better platform at the moment but the cost is still a little bit too expensive to get me to buy-in.

I currently have the "new" ipad as apple names it. Its a 32GB model. I would suggest if you decide to buy one to get at least 32GB not the 16GB as probably will be limited in space. Also, I would say the most major difference between ipad 2 and the "new" ipad or ipad 3 is the retina display. You will definitely notice a difference between the displays as the new ipad is much clearer but definitely not worth 600$. The iPad 2 has a 1024x768 display and the new iPad has 2048x1536 display. Apple products are always over priced but they always seem to make quality products that work well in my opinion. Like what was previously mentioned you can go with an android based tablet but I recommend you try out the ipad and see if you like it and if so then fork out the cash. I bought mine months ago and I use it everyday even bring it to work. Its waaay more portable than a laptop and at least 8 hours battery life(try getting close to that with a laptop :) ). I also want to make clear that I am not an apple fanboy or anything just love things that work well.
