[citation][nom]halcyon[/nom]Apparently Apple feels that it takes at least a dual-core to handle Siri. I guess they'd know.[/citation]
They don't. That's why Siri worked very well on iP4 as an independent app and was killed from the store only when 4S came out, not sooner.
Not to mention the ipad2, that has same h/w as iP4S and still gets no Siri...
At least on Android I can access any app and I get the fair warning of OS version compatibility. I get to choose, not the phone maker, and that's the whole point.

'Things are even more grim if you still have an iPhone 3GS, which came out two years ago, in 2009.'

You do know that 2009 was three years ago? Someone really needs to start proofreading these articles before they're posted!

[citation][nom]watcha[/nom]As opposed to the Android way of simply denying them access to the entire operating system to force them to upgrade?[/citation]

officially yes. but at least with a droid you can root it and get the latest OS on it even when you phone doesn't support it

[citation][nom]The Greater Good[/nom]That's the Apple way, though. Force people to upgrade good hardware.[/citation]

The Android way is much better, though.... Just don't release any updates at all.

[citation][nom]DSpider[/nom]Got screwed with an iPod touch 2G (which I bought in 2009 and in 2010 they cut support with iOS 4.2.1 being the highest supported). And now the cycle repeats for the very (un)fortunate recent iPhone 4 users. Great job, Apple!Lesson learned. I'm not buying an Apple product again.[/citation]

Yea, go buy a droid something. They always have updates for their phones and tablets available. Good luck with that!!

The reason apple fanboys dont mind these tactics is because they look at upgrades in a different light than the rest of us. To them, it's actually a sign of weakness of an OS supports older hardware. The fact that iOS6 could run on an iPhone 3GS means there's really not much doing on with iOS6. They want to feel like their OS is actually doing something better, and a better OS should technically require better hardware. They think the fact that ICS runs on hacked phones from Windows Mobile 6 means that ICS is some old outdated OS that cant really push the limits and is meant for antiquated hardware.

[citation][nom]watcha[/nom]The difference is that the iOS users on older devices get the 197... or so other improvements. When you're stuck on an old operating system like Android users, you get zero improvements.[/citation]

i have a Nexus S which is classified as an OLD phone now and it got upgraded to ICS and got almost everything but the face unlock feature that the new galaxy nexus has. between what apple is doing to there old phones plus now with the new iphone 5 changing the dock port forcing apple fanbois into buying new accessories android is a better way to go then apple

You're right house. ....and my comment was ignorant.

Not looking forward to windows 8 on the desktop, but this kind of crap is making me want to blend my iphone and get the first windows 8 phone that comes to the market..

This is one of the least important 'piece of crap' bits of news. Why do all the fanboys have to make it seem more important? Get a life and buy an overpriced white box without telling the rest of the world. 😛

lol, you guys are hilarious. You are talking about this like it is not normal. Supporting the all of the latest features on hardware that is 3 years older than your latest release is insane. The types of capability jumps between hardware releases has been significant. No manufacturer does this. Hell, most of you can't even get ICS on recent hardware much less on older hardware.

IOS6 contains a bunch of new features and most will make it down to the oldest hardware that is supported. There are some features however that will not make it due to a number of reasons. How is this outside the norm of any other company?

[citation][nom]eddieroolz[/nom]Last I recall, June 2012 - June 2009 is 3 years.[/citation] Sorry, not 3 years 3 releases back.

Most Android phones aren't any better.

Meh. You have to root most Android phones to get the newest Android updates... the Nexus phones are something of an exception, but anything with a manufacture made custom launcher, is going to end up seeing several month delays on updates... Plus, carrier bloatware usually can't be removed without root, so there ya' go. You pretty much NEED to root your Android device in most cases... in order to just get reasonable functionality of choosing what's on your device, and getting rid of bloadware. Nevermind "enthusiast" desires, like overclocking, and customizing the GUI.

Meanwhile on iOS devices, Apple will wall you in on what your device can do, and deny you features if you don't jailbreak. So, to gain some basic functionality that should have been included by default, or to get out of BS restrictions, you need to jailbreak. You also need to jailbreak to get features that were omitted for no apparent reason, such as Siri on the iPhone4.

I honestly don't see how either side, Android fanboys, or Apple fanboys, could argue they have the better situation when it comes to this. Android or iOS, you pretty much have no choice but to hack the device....

Well, unless you're somehow content with stock, and think it's OK to have carrier bloatware draining your battery for no apparent reason, or get denied OS feature updates, because you can't shell out absurd amounts of cash to update your hardware every year. I'm personally offended by either situation.

i'm just not all that excited by iOS6. i have a 4s and its just fine the way it is. i know Siri is there but her and I aren't the best of friends.

Aha you are right. Google just disabled my nexus one because its outdated. No more access to my operating system at all.

I hope you realize your statement implies that Android phones disable themselves when a new OS comes out. Also on android... its called a custom rom. Good luck finding a custom rom for an iphone...

Don't hate. BLACKBERRY FTW!

It's funny cause ICS was released 8 months ago and I still don't have it on my evo 3d (which HTC said would have, 8 months ago)

Thanks for the updates HTC
