iPhone headphones are plugged in. Earphones are working, but the mic isn't.

I plugged in my apple headphones. The speakers work fine, but i am unable to get the microphone working. I've tried most of the solutions on the website, including uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers, enabling/disabling it in control panel, checking the sounds panel, but I am still unable to get it to work. [I built this computer]
I have attempted to plug the headphones directly into the motherboard, but that didn't work either.

The microphone on Apple headphones (and on many other mobile phone headphones which have a microphone) will not work on a PC/laptop owing to the microphone's on/off button which works through the jack plug --- PC/laptop jack is unable to support this function.

You need a regular headset that's designed for a PC/laptop.

I've gotten them to work on my old PC, it should work, as the jack is a 3.5 mm 4-pole jack, which is the same as the headphone jack.
