Hi, i have a laptop with Geforce 860M 2GB VRAM, and i want to buy a 4k display for it, so i have a larger screen for my desk. But many people on other forums says that 2GB of VRAM is not enough to run a 4K display, but how can the new iMac run 5K with only 2GB VRAM?? (5K is almost double as mant pixels as the 4K) :)

As long as you are not planning on playing games then its fine. For gaming at 4k you really need 4gb and much much higher GPU power

Solution
the max resolution of a 860m is 4096x2160..and 4k resolution is 3840x2160. so it will play a video. but there may be some shuttering.

That will be fine

Not that I have tried but I have read the 1080p scales very well on 4k monitors
