I have my eyes on an HP Pavilion 15 i5.

Here are the specs:
Intel Core i5-4210U with Intel HD Graphics 4400 (1.7 GHz, 3 MB cache, 2 cores)
6 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM (1 x 2 GB, 1 x 4 GB)
1 TB SATA SSHD (5400rpm)
39.6 cm (15.6") diagonal HD BrightView WLED-backlit (1366 x 768)
Windows 8.1 64
1 HDMI; 1 headphone/microphone combo; 1 USB 2.0; 2 USB 3.0; 1 RJ-45
Intel HD Graphics 4400

I know this isn't exactly a gaming laptop, but what would it be good for apart from browsing the web and going on Facebook? Could I edit photo's on this laptop?

Thanks.

You can use the laptop as a paper weight, door stop, impromptu bludgeoning object (for self defense), bug squasher, etc...

When I am busy with my desktop, I sometimes use my laptop to encode videos. Sure, it is not a fast as the quad core i5-4670k, but it can get the job done.

I even tweaked Skyrim to run decently well on a friend's laptop (Core i5-4210u & Intel HD 4400) @ 1600x900 resolution with mostly medium settings, but with shadows disabled. It runs better at 1366x768 resoluton, but the roughly average 30 FPS in the open world was good enough for him at the higher resolution.
