Sean, if you're going to lie, at least do it so you can't be verifiably
proven wrong within 30 seconds of an Internet search. I don't even
*have* Directv service and I can find this page easily :

http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/see/LocalChannels_markets.dsp

Note that these are *satellite* feeds, not off-the-air signals. And
since you can't seem to figure out how to work your browser, here's the
relevent text:

"Who has local channels from DIRECTV? The numbers tell the story — we
offer local broadcasts in 130 markets across the country. That's more
than 90% of the nation's TV households. "

As far as HD goes,DirecTV just launched their first Ka-Band MPEG-4
satellite as of approximately at 0030 4-26-05 PDT.It was launched on a
mobile launching platform in the Pacific Ocean near the equator by a
company called SEALAUNCH LLB.It was launched on a Zenit 3SL 3-stage
rocket. It is the first of 4 satellites that will be able to deliver high
definition locals across the US.It is one huge satellite (approx. 13,000
pounds).
When this satellite cluster becomes FULLY active in 2007,even COMCAST
wil be hard pressed to compete with it.

Sean screwed up. He followed up to the wrong message in this
thread. (4/25/2005 11:53 AM vs 4/25/2005 11:45 AM)

2007.

Hold on while I check todays date.... 2005.

By 2007 you DTV guys will be posting in the NDS dvr newsgroup.

And Comcast will be doing just fine.

Just last night yet another HD channel showed up in my guide.

TNT-HD.

Nice. More NBA games in HD and hopefully golf too.

That's on top of the UPN + WB channels that just showed up a few weeks
ago. No big announcement from Comcast or increase in fees, they just
keep rolling out the channels.

All you DTV rumpswabs keep retelling those "cable is bad" horror
stories a decade ago. I'll be enjoying my Comcast TV.

Geez Sean, your blathering is making even less sense than usual. First
you completely ignore the fact that your lies about DTV local channel
availability was provably false, how convenient. Now you're accusing
DTV's new satellite's as coming on too slowly, while just the other day
you were trying to recommend to people not to buy DTivo hardware because
it was coming on line too quickly!

Must be nice to be able to complain about *both* sides of something,
that way you can always be the little troll that you are. Too bad you
aren't intelligent enough to understand subtlety so you aren't quite so
transparent.

Reply:
I do not care what DVR service will be employed with the new MPEG-4
service or not.
It could be TiVo,it could be an NDS offering;the point is that it will
be an HD service that in my estimation will be BETTER than anything
COMCAST has.Not only that, but I will not have to rely on an underpowered
OTA antenna to deliver my HD locals.I have Comcast in addition to my
satellite NOW.All they offer is a feeble selection of 47 analog
channels. In my opinion, the DirecTV HD service will be worth the wait.I
seriously doubt that Comcast will have upgraded THEIR service in 2 years
time to be comparable with DirecTV.Apparently Comcast is not equally
great in all areas.
With respect to the 2007 date,I said that is when the satellite HD
cluster will be FULLY active.(Key word being FULLY here [all 4
satellites running]).The satellite already launched is supposed to
deliver channels in selected markets toward the END OF THIS YEAR......

DTV's HD offerings are pretty thin unless you subscribe to all the premium
packages as well, although Starz HD isn't available (at least in my area -
don't know about others).

Doesn't matter much to me since I'm getting the HD programming for free
still. It's a much better option for me to receive the handful of HD
channels for $0 extra from DTV as opposed to paying $5 for the blank screen
that Comcast would deliver. I'm not really interested in watching high
definition snow on my TV.
