Neither is Best.

The Best is i7 series.

i3 and C2d are mainstream.

Even Quad Cores PWNS them.

you need to be more specfic in which C2D and i3 processor you want to compare

Generally, i3 processors are newer, more energy efficient and run cooler than simillar clock C2D's
Also, the Core2Duo processor cannot be upgraded in future, as all future processors starting from i series will be on newer socket.
