Is it good for buying alienware 13 r2 for gaming in 2017

What are the specs of the particular model you are considering?

I'm guessing a Core i7-6500U CPU, and a GTX 960m GPU. If that's the case, from what I've read, that CPU will be a bottleneck for the GTX 960m.

I already stated that (my guess it was) a i7-6500U CPU would bottleneck a GTX 960m. But it turns out it is an i5-6200U, which is even worse. Personally, I wouldn't buy a gaming laptop with that weak a CPU.
