Just wondering...Is it posible for virus to return after you format HD and reinstal OS ? you can recover data if you dont overwright it with new one after format
is it posible with virus? (sorry about bad english)

Solution
Just doing a reformat doesn't necessarily overwrite the boot sector data, where a virus can reside, so yes it's definitely possible for a virus to survive any kind of format.
It won't survive a secure erase though.

Obviously restoring from infected backups is a possibility as well and more likely than a virus in boot sector data.
I highly doubt that any virus on the pc will still be on it after a reformat. It completely wipes the hard disk so no. On the other hand if the files you backed up were infected and after reinstalling you copied your backups(documents, pictures, videos) that might be the reason the virus infected your pc again.
Maybe scan your backups separately before putting it back onto a newly reformatted hard drive.
