ok guys.

Ive got a really good quality Hi Fi system and it has recently come in to my mind that I would like to run my PCs sound through it so that I can get my games and muscic in PROPER, amplified surround sound :pt1cable:

I'm not sure if it's possible though and also what hardware I would need to buy?

basically, it is a Sony amplifier that is about 6 years old and has standard outputs/inputs on that back.

My Sound card is an Audigy 2 running on a homebuilt P4 beastie (or at least it was a beast 2 years ago when I built it  )

Can anyone advise me how to go about this please as I havent got a clue how to do it.

Likewise, is it possible to connect my television through the same magical hardware device so I can also get Xbox games in proper sound?

thanks a lot

Hmm
Well after a quick Google search it seems I can use a mini 3.5mm stereo plug to dual RCA plug cable to do the job.

Sounds like I will lose a fair bit of quality though?

Are there any 'other' methods?

i use my stereo speakers through my comp for games and the like and it sounds fine to me although my music comes through a squeezebox or cd player.

However, If you can test it out, i doubt you will notice the difference because fo the cable unless you are one of these golden eared freaks.

oh and btw, no comp built with a p4 has even been a beast.

thanks rexster. Im going to have a read of that right now.

Stragestranger - AMD certainly has the better product now...but 2 years ago when i bought it was a much more even choice between AMD and Pentium 4

hmm, not many people in their right, unbiased minds would have wanted the p4 or any intel product until the C2D and right now, intel have the best product as far as performance goes.

I never said I was in 'my right mind' :pt1cable: :)
but processor changes happen quicker than my hardware upgrades... I will have to look into the new intel offerings no you have said that!
