Is it worth it to get a more expensive laptop with the GTX 1080 than a cheaper one with the 1070?

I was thinking of buying an Alienware 17 with the GTX 1070 but a friend suggested I buy the gtx 1080 since it would last me longer in terms of performance. I'm a bit lost now. But would it be worth it to get the gtx 1080 as opposed to the gtx 1070 for someone who doesn't really care about 4K gaming?

Solution
GTX 1070 is a solid card for 1080p and 1440p.
and GTX 1080 on other hand, its overkill for 1080 and obviously it will perform better than 1070 @1440p.
and about 4K, no single card will give you 60+ FPS on Ultra settings.
so 1070 is your card go for it.

Depends on the price difference .. how much more ? and what is the resolution on each ? by the way , GTX 1080 is not for 4K gaming , it is a high end 1440P gaming card .. it will not handle 4K very well.

The 1080 is about $400 more and the resolution on both is the same. I think QHD (2560x1440)

how about other options ? like an option for Gsync monitor ? If the $400 is only for the GPU and nothing else it is not worth it ... unless you are rich enough not to care ... the GTX 1080 will perform better on 2560x1440 .

The IPS is only with the FHD and the UHD(only the 1080 has the UHD ) display though and those don't come with G-Sync
What's the difference between TN and IPS THOUGH?

IPS displays better colors and have better viewing angles but has little higher response time (5ms)... the TN is the cheapest in the Market , worst colors , worst view angle but fast response time (1ms).

you wont notice the difference much between 5ms and 1ms only few people get bothered by this ..

For gaming the Gsync and high herz are ver important. but I wished Dell made them IPS ...

here is a comparison movie

GTX 1080 if you are rich :) enough to pay. 1440P monitor needs GTX 1080 for max setting and >60fps gaming !!!
