Is max resolution really the max?

Hi guys,
I'm planning to buy a laptop next month so I've already started the research. One thing I've noticed is that many laptops' displays have a screen resolution of 1366x768 and it got me confused as I've never thought of this before: does the max resolution mean that I can't go above these numbers (it will not be rendered or etc.) or that I will not see a difference if I do go above?

even if you want to go above this resolution you can not although you can play 1080 p movies but at your screen resolution

you wont be able to go higher, on desktop pc's you can sometimes force a bit higher refresh rate than the monitor officially reports but for resolution ... well forget about it... that's the amount of physical pixels the actual panel has... unless it's a real small laptop i would really recommend to go for something with higher resolution.... you wont even be able to enjoy 1080p videos properly on that

Hi.
Well, this resoliution means that this laptop has 1366 pixels in line * 768 pixels. One pixel can show only one dot, not two. So it can't go above this resoliution in most situations.

these days i would recommend to get as high resolution as possible - don't be shy that things will look small - remember you can change the dpi setting and make them bigger again (apart from programs that don't scale) - but you still benefit from clearer text and everything....
