I think Nintendo should use more simple project and try to get indie devs to work on some really cool games.

There is some downloads more interesting than actual retail games.... for example, Bastion lately...

[citation][nom]pangedit[/nom]What does the depression have to do with this? Its not stopping people from buying millions of iphones and android devices left and right. Mobile phones will take over mobile gaming thats the reason why.[/citation]

1) Because like I said, the 3DS is just an expensive gimmick unlike a phone (LTR), and 2.) a phone has a bigger market than a Nintendo handheld console.

BTW...
Mobile phones have had a gaming market in Japan for years, and they haven't taken over. It won't be any different anywhere else. That's like saying consoles will take over PC gaming.

Nintendo really dropped the ball with branding and marketing on the 3DS. People honestly think it's just a 3D iteration of the original DS, they have no clue that the system itself can push more intensive visuals than Sonys PSP and posibly the Wii which is quite a jump from the original Nintendo 64 like abilities of the original DS.

Competition from IOS and Android devices doesn't help, but actual gamers can tell the difference between the shovelware (yes this is inclusive of shallow as hell, "high quality" games like Infinity Blade) and actual games developed for the core gaming audience.

If you can't tell the difference between the two you probably shouldn't be purchasing games for other people. You're gifting the software equivalent of a Grandmas Christmas sweater.

Well considering the amount of Shovel ware that is out for consoles. How many games are not even worth buying because the quality of them are so poor?

Many of you are clearly not handheld gamers and your bias is showing. The 3DS has gotten a lot of hate lately and Nintendo and handheld haters are quick to jump on the bandwagon. I read an intelligent article yesterday that levelled a few good reminders.

First, several of the delayed titles were likely delayed to sell the most games. Two of the delays (Crush and Shinobi) are niche games on a handheld. They're likely being delayed post Christmas Rush so that they can take advantage of more people owning the system. If you release them too early, they don't sell enough. Many games have very short sell windows and there is actual strategy involved in picking those windows. You don't want it near a major release that will out compete you.

There aren't as many people as you think morning the loss of Assassin's Creed on a handheld. The other iteration on ds was good but not spectacular, probably due to the difficulty of doing any serious action game on a handheld. I'd rather have Nintendo cancel some lame games in order to focus on developing good ones.

The 3DS also sold more units in June than the prior month. It also shouldn't surprise people that the most recent older models sell better right at the end of their lives. This is true of ANY system after the prior generation gets significant price breaks.

iOS games? Give me a break. Have any of you spent any time playing iOS AND handheld games? iOS games are really superficial. They're cheap, yes, and you get what you pay for. Imagine a PSP with a touch screen and no buttons. Imagine a Nintendo handheld with JUST the touchscreen but just a bit bigger. These games are selling well to the masses because they don't get that there are better options and they don't understand. These iOS companies are laughing at the sub-par gaming experiences they are giving them. I like iOS games for VERY casual gaming. I played games on my iPod Touch for a month and realized how stupid they are. But when I want to be actually challenged at something that is mobile, a handheld is the only thing that can do it. Most handhelds only do one or two things, but they do them well. Smart Phones do EVERYTHING superficially. You trade mobility for staring at a tiny little screen. Surfing the internet is not that great on an iOS phone. It is a TEMPORARY solution and still cannot replace an LCD monitor in your home for ease of use. You're just trading mindlessly staring at info at home for mindlessly staring at info outside. Whoop-de-doo. You're still just mindlessly staring at info.

Price at 250? Kudos to the poster above who reminded you that all handhelds are expensive at release. Someone did a comparison for inflation and while the 3DS is slightly more expensive when adjusted than its past handhelds, it isn't by much. If any of you actually spent any time thinking about how much money you soak into a smart phone you may be shocked. Even with a deal on the phone itself you still are dropping over 100 bucks a month on a single line with minimal data. Do you have internet at home too? Added cost. You're staring at the same tiny little touchscreen to view your tiny little videos and tiny little web and even tinier little email. And you're criticizing handheld gaming units? I spend 250 once on a handheld and have a simple cell phone that I just use to make calls. I can still talk and text and I have a better gaming experience than you for far less money. I never pay full price for games because I am patient and can wait for price breaks. Its STILL cheaper than owning a smartphone.

This isn't a problem for Nintendo yet and the fact that so many think it is is just revealing how much you don't understand handheld gaming. After Christmas the 3DS will be evaluated. And with a titanic list of huge titles to be launched before the end of the year I'm looking forward to naysayers eating their words.

The problem isn't so much that dedicated mobile gaming devices are obselete. I think its more than the 3DS is focusing way too much on the 3D aspect instead of simply as a gaming device. Having two screens was basically a gimmick when the DS initially came out, and it's already gotten quite old. The 3DS is based off of not one, but two gimmicky ideas that have nothing to do with good games. We don't need (any many don't want) 3D. And, while a second screen with touch capability is nice, its far from critical and raises cost while not adding anything significant. The 3DS is just too much like the DS. We don't want to by the same system we bought, what, three years ago? It would likely have done much better as either a more powerful non-3D device, or if it included something new. Much like the DS before it and the Wii, a gimmicky add-on may sell well at first, but it isn't going to sell people the same product twice.

As for price, yes, it's very high, but it's nowhere near the price required for a smartphone once you factor in service. If you don't have service on the phone, it's no different than a subpar dedicated gaming device.

Saint's Row, Bomberman, Assassin's Creed, Mega Man, BloodRayne, DJ Hero.......

Maybe it's failing because Nintendo seems truly incapable of releasing anything new apart from a controller. Maybe they should just stop making consoles and games and just become a peripheral manufacturer.

its definitely not stopping the xbox 360 sheep from replacing there consoles with another 360 every few months

The biggest complaint I hear is that you need it really stable for the 3D to really work and when it is a handheld console with buttons to press is really hard to do. You would need some kind of retarded stand strapped to your waist :)

Downloadable games on smartphones are killing the Gameboy. Nintendo should have realized this several years ago. They'll go the way of Atari and Sega, in Nintendo's case as a publisher for game apps on tablets and smartphones.

[citation][nom]Aionism[/nom]With Mega Man Legends 3 canceled, the 3DS and Capcom are dead to me. DEAD, I TELL YOU![/citation]
I don't really know these games, but you definitely get a +1 for the drama. Thanks.

when they are putting out the same kind of time waster games mainly for the Nintendo portable systems it is not surprising. just hope vita will not be the same.

the itouch can be the most popular portable game system but it is still the worst

I believe the 3DS isn't selling as well right is simply because of the price and lack of games at the moment... Around Christmas there will be a great selection of games; i.e Luigi's Mansion 2, Super Smash Brothers, Mario kart, Paper Mario etc.. and there's already a select number of excellent games out already, Zelda, Resident Evil etc. Me personally am very excited to purchase one but I not until said games are released, because what would be the point? A price drop would most likely occur in that time-frame so I'll be patient and wait.

Also people need to stop using the word "gimmick" .. it's become too cliche, I think the 3D is a nifty feature and it's not like you HAVE to use it... iOS games, cellphone games etc are SO terrible... yeah they're 1-10$ but like someone previous to me said... you get what you pay for... the quality is NOTHING like that of dedicated hand-held consoles... I would personally prefer to buy a dedicated hand-held such as the 3DS and buy a cellphone separately for tasks such as I don't know.. making phone calls? I'm going to be purchasing the new Blackberry bold in September and have absolutely no interest in games or applications such as ones that are "so good" as described by other users.. I'll leave that up to my 3DS 😉
