Well he is a retard, ill be the first in line to say it, but in my case he could be right.

I never rent movies i see them all in the theater. about once a year i use a dvd or cd to install a game. almost all of the games i buy are digital(steam ftw). I don't back up data to disk anymore, the prices of external hardrives are so cheap if i need more data for backups ill just buy another. I don't have 500TBs of data i need to back up every month, so i wont be buying a new external every year.

So for me i could see this happening, but i don't represent the whole population. nor does everyone have access to a good ISP/high speed internet so i cant really agree that blueray is just an in-between. there should always be a physical storage available.

If you watch Blu-Ray on your PC, you are in a very small minority. There are not enough people who do so to justify the extra cost of using a BD drive instead of a CD drive in Macs. They are already overpriced enough as it is.

well I don't know many people that actually use blu-ray outside of the internet but I think physical media will survive but dwarfed by DD.

Blu-Ray will have a market but I don't see it ever being as large as DVD.

backing up 150GB of files would mean one new blue ray disc.....or a few days of uploading.....which wastes half of my bandwidth limit....and the other half would go on downloading it again.

The cost of Blu-ray now would facilitate a change, however the state of broadband speeds doesn't support mainstream acceptance at this point in time. As Blu-ray drives/media comes down in price like all tech inevitably does, it will become more widely accepted and allowed to run the coarse of it's life cycle.

There will be a day when Blu-rays die off in favor of something else, possibly digital downloads. That day is not in the near future though.

I hate Apple. I use to hate Sony back in the days (this has nothing to do with xbox vs ps) because their tvs always break but now I hate Apple because they have an ego problem. meanwhile, everybody with the latest and greatest apple device is studying the kamasutra just to try and tangle their body into a position to try and get ANY BANDWIDTH AT ALL. I'm all for fast, reliable, interruption free internet downloaded movies. but I, unlike you Steve, can't ignore THE REAL WORLD!

it WILL happen, and I can't wait, but trust me, bluray is just a better experience for less hassle than downloads atm.

where im at, internet connection is very crappy, way way behind what you guys have, so if your connection is crappy(and has a dl limit) imagine what we have here, so a big no no to you steve. i like things that i can hold thank you, sure i do buy from steam, download stuff but whenever i can i do buy dvd movies/games.
i like HD and i hope bluray gets cheaper, actually some movies are cheaper now, so just a little more.
if what you(jobs) said comes true, i cant imagine how things will go, sooo many people downloading stuff from the net(worse than the numbers now), im pretty sure the isp's will give everyone a monthly cap much worse than what we have now.

for heavy PC users... yes maybe, however for those not technologically inclined, which even though it is the age of technology so to speak, many people are not and do not know how to get their downloaded content from thier PCs/Flashdrives to thier video device whatever it may be, and lets face it, even heavy PC users, unless thier PC is hooked up to their TV, most of us do not want to watch a movie on their 20-24 inch monitor (assumption of average size). instead most would rather watch that HD movie on their 55" HDTV. plus on top of that, another thing to look at is ease of access, for the average user, how long do you think it would take to download a Blu-Ray movie? a lot of people are impatient why take some hours to download, when you can go to the store and buy it faster. so even if downloads eventually take over, i personally do not see it happening in the next 5 years (possibly more). such is my counter argument.

Blu-Ray has its place in my opinion.

i apologize for my double post, however it seems i forgot to mention something. Streaming... is out of the question... high bandwidth (ok for some not for all) and on top of that, 720p? quality think quality, (not that steve jobs can) who wants to watch 720p when you can get 1080p, and unless you are paying for streaming content i don't think that the producers would want their movies on a free stream, and on top of that they know they can make more money for single sales.

This guy obviously doesn't know the market outside of North America. Over at Japan, they sell boatloads of Blu-ray anime/movies/dramas.

But then again, Lord Jobs can influence all who follow him anyway. Any resistance is futile.
