I just can't get my Tbird 900 to unlock. I’m using a A7V and have taken the CPU of 4 times to fuss with the L1 bridges.
First I used defogger paint (2 times) then I cleaned it off with alcohol and tried just using a #2 pencil (twice) but still no luck. I was thinking of lightly sanding the L1 bridges because maybe the surface is dirty and not making good contact. Is this a dangerous idea? Or maybe I could just set the L1 bridges to x 10 on the CPU, Is there a chart on how to set the multipliers on the CPU?
I’m going to give is one more try then I giving up and living with a 900, 100 MGZ is not worth damaging the CPU with the Heatsink.

Please I need ideas!!!!

There are a number of articles about unlocking the processors. One on this site can be found at <A HREF="http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000711/index.html" target="_new">http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000711/index.html</A>.

Is this a new board? I don't have an A7V, but I've read some posts where the jumpers on the motherboard were causing problems becasue they were not set correctly.

I'd hesitate to take sandpaper to the bridges, but that's up to you.

I 99.99% sure I got the jumpers set the correct way. But one time I tried X 9.5 and it posted as a 600 which made me think the L1 bridges weren’t connected good.
I read u can get strange multipliers when the L1 are not all connected.

My question is can u under clock a CPU if the L1 bridges are left alone?

Heh! Well, I would think that if the multiplier were locked, you wouldn't be able to overclock or underclock it.

I tried ASUS' site before my first post, but it was down. I just checked their "Motherboard FAQ" and found a reference indicating that there's a mistake on the jumper settings in the motherboard manual. They point to the correct settings at:

<A HREF="http://www.asus.com/products/Motherboard/socketa/a7v/jumper.html" target="_new">http://www.asus.com/products/Motherboard/socketa/a7v/jumper.html</A>.

I'm not trying to harp on the jumpers, but it's worth checking if you haven't already. Maybe someone more familiar with this board has more ideas...aside from updating the BIOS, etc.

OMFG !!!! Thanks so much, I had printed a jumper setting page by Wesley Woo-Duk Chung and the settings are wrong!
First try posted at 1 gig but didn’t make it to windows, So I set the voltage to 1.85 and bingo.
I don’t know how stable it is yet but no crashes yet .
This makes me happy and pissed of at the same time.
All 3 time I fussed with the L1 bridges for no reason.
O well Thx

You're welcome! A clear case of <b>Inverse RTFM</b>...you did read the manual, but that was the problem.

I printed 2 jumper settings charts (one from overclockers.com) a few months ago and I checked them with the new one from Asus and both are wrong!!!
The 10, 9.5, 9, 8.5 all wrong, then I stopped checking and threw the paper in the trash.
I wonder how many other people this screwed up.
