No, it does handle stereo at least. I went to a place that still
carries used laserdiscs around here and was checking the back labels
for ones with analog only. I picked up Happy Gilmore and it plays just
great. They had a cool 2-disc Led Zeppelin LD set there too i'm going
to pick up soon also!

The guy on ebay who was selling this player thought one of the channels
was broken so i got it for $20 with shipping. :) i guess he didn't
know about the dolby digital thing. so, i got a pretty nice deal i
guess.

the only reason i really got this player is because theres a couple
rare music concert LD's out there that were only ever released on that
format.

The first time I played an AC-3 disc I thought I had lost one channel on
my player. I sure was upset. I was relieved to find out that the noise
is a signal to make surround sound work on that particular type of disc.
Once I put another laserdisc in, it played fine. I realized it was time
to update my player...

All manufactured LaserDisc players for both NTSC and PAL are stereo including
the very first model from 1978, the MCA DiscoVision/Universal Pioneer PR-7820.

However, the LD-V2200 is CX analogue only.

Next time, make sure the player you're getting has digital audio by researching
your choices.

For commercial NTSC players, try to get either the LD-V4400 or the LD-V8000.

Either that, or buy almost any NTSC or PAL Pioneer player that has the CLD
prefix in the model number, which guarantees digital audio capability.

Of course, you can't play NTSC discs on a PAL player unless the player is an
"international" model. Plus, because of less bandwidth than NTSC discs, PAL
discs can have only analogue CX stereo or digital stereo but never both. -

The V2200 is Analog only, Analog is also Stereo. Some LD's use the Analog
tracks for different purposes, AC-3, commentary, etc. with those you will
only get a mono sound track. Many laserdisc's give you stereo analog sound
so you will get stereo. What you cannot get is Digital Stereo.

If you want to get Digital stereo then get a newer player.
