hoping I did OK in ordering this particular unit ?
it has been upgraded an extra 250 hours {single drive}
and is a factory refurb {boxed and sealed}
it did not come with the liftetime sub though,I'll need to order that when I
get it.
I've wanted to jump into the digital recording for a while now and didn't
know what to get ?
this one sounds like a winner !!

I jumped in a few weeks ago. It's interesting.

BTW, Commercial Advance really does work. CBS figured it out, though;
they do fade to commercial, but they keep their CBS "eye" logo bug in
the bottom corner of the screen, and that's enough program material to
keep CA from doing its thing.

So anyway, where did you get your 5040?

You made the right choice. Now you'll want another to network between
rooms. Check out www.poopli.com for show sharing and helpful tips.

got it on ebay,the thing is....I had gotten outbid on the newer 5532
lifetime {used}and then seen this one for a whole lot less.....but didn't
notice about it not having the lifetime option.
probably will still be less than the other one since this one included
shipping for $365.00
factory sealed and everything included.the other bid was over $600.00 ?,is
the 5532 that much better than the 5040 ?,

The 5532 is a 320 hour unit from the factory. The 5040 is a 40 hour
unit from the factory. If it has more than 40 hours available to it,
it's been upgraded by a third party.

The 50xx series is, in my opinion, more desirable than the 55xx series
for two reasons: commercial advance and internet video sharing.

It is straightforward and simple to upgrade a hard drive in a RTV. But
if you're not comfortable with doing something like that yourself, you
got a decent deal.
