It requires, but it doesn't need it 99.9% of the time.

Also it uses dual scan technology .
U need to try it to really see the small foot print on the system resources.

A virus scanner can not provide reliable protection. Two anti-virus engine complement each other and guarantee a 100 - percent detection of viruses. G Data AntiVirus provides a simultaneous test with the help of two best in the world of anti-virus engines. The unique technology of dual scanning allows thorough detection of viruses and offers the best protection.

Kasperesky is worst resource hog you can find. It says A then consumes B, where B>A. If you want the lightest, Avira! :)

Hey hell_storm2004,

It is slowing the PC, if running on Pentium4 CPU. Other than that no problem. I had C2D E6750 @2.66 till 14 days ago and it was no problem. Now on 2600K @ 4.5 no issue.

I am having an overclocked E8400. The boot-up time without and SSD got increased by approx 30% with KIS installed. 2010 was good in that respect. 2011 was poor. I had a few issues for which i posted on the KIS forums. Don't remember what were the issues though! 2009 was really great and light!
