The kettle just turns off when the water is up to temp. Mine looks like this, but is stainless steel and only heats from the bottom.

Wish I had this one... :)

I wonder if that prevents it making that massive noise (what actually is that? Superheated steam in the water or what?) which can disturb people when you're having late night drinks.

This is nice.... It'd make it so I wouldn't have to wait for the stove. heck, why don't they just start making pans that plug in like this?

The stoves can be there just to act as a surface to put it on.

Personally, I like my large, round, stainless steel kettle...
I don't think I could ever convince myself to spend more than $20 on a kettle.

I want this Kettle. I have like 10 cups of tea a day. It'd also be better for me getting the right amount. Saving on water and power.

Also, I can't believe people still heat water on the hob, what is this? 1920?

it's nice (great to have my cuppa quicker & $70 is fine for something that will probably last years) but i wouldn't call it green, it still uses huge amounts of power (albeit less than a conventional kettle).

Just looked at the link on Oh Gizmo (which gets flagged up as having a malicous site by avast by the way) and it uses 35% less power which is a great acheivement.
