Keyboard issues, mistyping after a kitten walked across it. just got this laptop and it was working before tiny kitten paws messed it up

Try this...

1. Uninstall the keyboard driver.
2. Reboot the computer (yes without reinstalling the driver).
3. When it restarts it should reinstall the driver on its own.
