Kids' Computer Question

What is a good Laptop to get for Grade Schoolers? Most of their assignments are coming home electronically now, and so I'm looking for something inexpensive, small, and tough.

Do you have a router that will let you control the WiFi usage of the kid? I can (and do) set my kids computers to turn off their Internet usage at 10:00pm weeknights and Midnight on weekends.

You can get reasonable systems from any of the main players for about $500, cheaper right now with sales.
