[citation][nom]the_krasno[/nom]Could be that it was tested prominently on light skinned people: asians and caucasians.[/citation]

Highly doubt they would exclude dark-skinned people in the testing since the motion sensing technology was developed my Microsoft Saudi offices. And yes they have microsoft offices in other countries.

The testing with blacks and browns was probably done in well lit environment and also with clothes on.

The Kinect system mistakenly identifies the black guys w/out clothes with 3 legs and it confuses the hell out of the system.

HHAHA Racism at its best. I can imagine the packaging: "Not for niggaz" :D

If there were more black people on the Kinect development team they would have recognized this problem earlier. Unfortunately black people prefer to sing, dance and play gangsta games instead of studying electrical engineering and CS.

that is funny and sad. It's irony more than real comedy. Well I hope they fix the issue so my black friends can play some games with me. If not Jerome will be forced to play nes all by himself. :( although it probably won't bother him unless they release Madden2012 strictly for Kinect. then He might kill me and bomb microsoft. He loves football??

A guy walk in an hardware store

Customer: I need some paint!
Employee: What color?
Customer: Does not matter what color, it must not be dark color as per Microsoft!
Employee: What room you want to paint? Is the paint too dark on your wall??
Customer: My room is fine, I just want to play with Kinect on my XBOX!!!
Employee: !?!?
Customer: Do you have one that could work with my tan ;)
Employee: WTF!?

I think people are looking at this story as a "racist" camera. The reality is probably that microsoft, along with its xbox 360 console is made as cheap as possible for the masses that they designed a camera/lens/megapixels that is too low quality to pick up contrast. I foresee a revision to the camera design in the future.

@Zingam

nice, real nice, wait your right, why not just make them productive again and bring back slavery and lets not forget the yellow, cause you know all they ever do is open up restaurants and nail salons

here let me give you a hint, forget black, white, yellow or any other color there a general shortage of graduate engineers electrical or otherwise. As for CS, yeah well IMHO anyone who does a course in that needs to be slapped, the majority of the courses are outdated and irrelevant, you could probably learn as much on your own and be equally as talented, the only course that have real merits are the advance ones like software engineering and AI/robotics/bio-mimicry (which do not even exist in the same spectrum as CS). A degree in maths and an interest in computers would probably serve you better then a degree in CS

Not surprising. Its always harder to photograph / video black people unless you have proper lighting (usually more). It has nothing to do with racists, but how the universe works.

Black / dark colors absorb light. Thats the basics.

I bet there's some setting that could be changed to easily resolve the issue but of course, SOME dark-skinned people will ALWAYS want to play the race card whenever possible.
