I'm considering buying a JVC microsystem that plays both cd's and
dvd's. However it doesn't seem to have an equalizer in the specs. I
mainly listen to classical music so is the lack of an equalizer or
presets that important?

Why do you think you need an EQ? I have two systems and use my
digital EQ about 3-4times a year! Oh, and my listening is
predominantly classical as well.

No, no, no...! You *especially* need an equalizer when listening to
classical music, otherwise how could the music of a mediocre talent
like Virgil Thomson compare to the greatness of Gustav Mahler? You
have to level the playing field, that's what an equalizer is for.
