Laptom ram questions

i currently have 3Gb DDR3 ram in m laptop and wish to upgrade to its max which is 4Gb DDR3. do i order 4GB and replace the 3 or do i get 1 GB to make up t edifference to 4 ??

I find it far more likely that you have 2 ram slots on your laptop, and one stick will be 2gb while the other is 1gb. In this case, you should be able to order the replacement 2gb stick with the same specs as the original
