Laptop Asus or Dell

Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and I am very much confused about which laptop should I buy. This is going to be my first laptop and I need quality and durability. I would be using it for daily purpose, moderate to heavy work, no hard gaming. I have following questions:

1. Core i3 or Core i5 which would be better for me to use? I mean which will serve me better and longer considering my purpose. Is there any difference between their quality and longevity?

2. I previously was considering Asus as they are very budget friendly and also I saw good reviews in some sites but my friends seems to be fascinated with Dell and detests Asus. Asus X series both Core i3 and i5 laptops comes in my budget where as Dell Vostro / Inspiron Core i3 fits in it.
Can you please suggest me which brand will be more reliable and will give me a better experience?

Personally, I like Asus a lot because of their built quality as well as their great cooling system.. Dell on the other side, I do not really fancy them.... As it relates to the processors, the i5 is the way to go at the moment-- more power and definitely more future proof...The i5 processors do better at gaming also..

Thank you for your response. Can you please clear some of my doubts:
1. Is there any difference between the durability of motherboard of i3 and i 5 laptops?
2. I will mainly use MS Office, Canvas, Photoshop, and some bioinformatics based softwares for my research purpose and will need a lot of web browsing and will need to store a lot of data. I need longevity a lot because the laptop have to serve me at least 4-5 years until the completion of my research. Can you please suggest which would be more appropriate for my purpose core i3 or i5?
