laptop battery problem

laptop powers up with ac adapter(without battery plugged in)but not when battery is plugged in. And the battery wont charge often(sometimes battery charges when kept overnight)

the battery does charge sometiimes.. when it does, it gives a backup of 8 hours approx..
is it the fault of battery??

Is there a bios update for the laptop, or possibly an updated driver for the laptop that might address the issue?
Look for a user forum for your laptop; they might have a more specific resolution.

battery gives a backup of 7-8 hrs when charged.
laptop switches off suddenly when the battery is drained even when plugged in to ac supply

i updated all my drivers because of that.
the battery charges when laptop is switched off and battery completely drained
