Laptop body with no air vents to avoid rusting

Are there any laptops out there that do not sport any air cavities or vents in their body? I am trying to buy a laptop that operates in a very humid, sea-facing environment. Lost a few machines due to rust if they were left switched off for a month or so! Basically, I don't want any air entering the laptop, but don't know if it is possible even with the Core M machines. Macbook 12 inch advertises it has no air vents, but I can't verify that right now. Are there other options as well? Thank you so much!

Thanks for your quick reply Someone Somewhere! Unfortunately, I am looking at a laptop for my fiance, who stays in an apartment just off the beach. Beautiful location, but not for electronics. Even HDTVs don't last for more than 18 months on average.

So, I can't give her a military grade laptop! Among the good-looking consumer versions, which ones do you think would be my best bet? I guess there is no perfect solution here, but want to make a well-informed choice. Thanks!

No tablet then? You could also buy a passive cooled PC, while it doesn't have the same mobility as a laptop it most definitely has the same computing strength if not faster, like the ZOTAC ZBOX CI320 NANO. I don't think there are any laptops that have passive cooling.

Goodluck!

Ah, OK. I was imagining oil rig type stuff. This may be a little more difficult.

I know my grandparents used to drape cloth (not sure what type; it was really finely woven something) over pretty much any electronics when they lived right on the beachfront. It seemed to work...

I'm not really sure.

Unless she's willing to be somewhat crippled by running Windows RT or Android (and even then, they likely have speaker grilles), you may be best to just back up well and treat cheap laptops as disposable.

Hi mderuiter92! Thanks for the new angle that I had not been seriously contemplating. Well, screen quality is the highest priority as the end user loves watching HD movies. Among Android or Windows tablets, which ones should I go for in terms of display quality? A quick search tells me the Samsung Galaxy Tab S is the best due to its AMOLED display. How is the Surface Pro 3 in terms of display quality and air vents? I need to purchase this by September 2015 as a birthday gift, so possibly can wait till then if something nice is releasing on the horizon (Thinking of Galaxy Tab S2 and Surface Pro 4) Thanks again!

Would love to help you further but I have absolutely no idea what's good or bad in the tablet market. I currently have an "old" Ipad2 and it works great for me!

You may want to consider ThinkPad X and T series business laptops. They are designed to exceed MIL-SPEC 810G (MIL-STD 810G) specifications for durability and reliability in extreme environments. For humidity, they are subjected to 91-98% humidity at 20°C to 60°C.

Here is some more information about MIL-SPEC (MIL-STD):

http://gcn.com/articles/2013/05/08/8-tests-behind-mil-std-ratings.aspx

Below is a link to a 804 page PDF document from the Department of Defense regarding test methods used in order for equipment to receive the MIL-STD 810G certification. It includes a corrosion test known as a salt fog test which should be part of the humidity test since fog only exists in very high humidity conditions.

I would second the tablet options, but not a Surface, that is basically a laptop with the keyboard removed, the components are more exposed.

Something else to think about, some humidity catches hung around the house, I use them in closets and basement and they trap a lot of moisture, although that's a constant cost to replace them. May help though to keep from buying a new TV every few years http://www.walmart.com/ip/DampRid-Hanging-Moisture-Absorber-3ct/15033113 http://www.grainger.com/product/6XFG0?gclid=CK7-nLzx88UCFYYWHwodDkMAcg&cm_mmc=PPC:GOOGLEPLAA-_-Material%20Handling-_-Shipping%20Supplies-_-6XFG0&ef_id=VVx-kQAAABGTINd-:20150603155545:s

Any of the higher end models will have good screens, the only issue would be with screen size, no tablet can match a 14-15" laptop screen for size, but they are portable and work great bed-side. You can get the iPad 3/4 used pretty cheap and both have good screens (the 3 has the "retina" screen as well as the 4, it's not widely put out). Any name brand 10" tablet will be pretty good really.

From what I can tell, they do not have any visible air vents and I saw a recent video of a new MacBook (Air ???) which made a big deal about it having air vents.
