I have the same exact problem as this person.

It's an older Dell Latitude E6420 that I just put an SSD in and a fresh copy of Windows 7. The problem is when I set the brightness to lower than 100% like any sane person, the backlight will go to full brightness for less than a second, then back to normal - it happens about once every three minutes.

It does not happen with the VGA Standard driver that comes with Windows, but I've tried 3 different versions from Intel and Dell's websites, and each have the every-3-minutes-full-backlight-for-half-a-second issue.

I have worked around it by setting 100% brightness, but I'd really prefer a solution. It apparently is some glitch with the driver...

*edit - not doing it now that it's plugged in... will test again on battery
