Laptop buying guide, budget $600

I am looking to buy a new laptop. My budget is $600. I want a laptop that can run softwares like solidworks and autocad smoothly. I also play one game i.e. ea sports fifa so i would add that to my requirements as well. I am looking to buy a dell laptop because I've had 2 dell laptops and my experience has been great. I can switch to HP if i get better specs in less price but not any other brand because I'm not confident on others.
I've been looking online on websites like amazon and bestbuy and i've found that in this budget i can get 2 configurations,

7th gen core i5 with 8gb DDR4 ram

or

6th gen core i7 with 8GB DDR3 ram

what are your views? should i go for latest technology or with core i7?
