Hi, my dad and me both need a new laptop, because he has a 6 year old Toshiba Satellite. I was thinking these choices:
DAD:

Dell Vostro 3360
-Windows 7 Home Premium 64x
-2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i3-2365M processor (3M Cache, 1.4 GHz)
-4GB DDR3 SO-DIMM AT 1600MHz-1X4GB
-320GB 7200RPM SATA HDD Drive
-Intel® HD Graphics 3000
-4-cell battery
-Dell Wireless 1703 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0+LE

ME:

Lenovo IdeaPad Y400
- 3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor( 2.40GHz 6MB)
- Windows 8 64
- NVIDIA GeForce GT650M 2GB
- 8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHz
- 14.0" HD Glare with integrated camera 1366x768
- 1TB 5400 rpm HDD
- DVD Recordable (Dual Layer)
- 6 Cell Li-Polymer Battery
- Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230
- HDMI (Out)

He travels overseas for work and only uses it for e-mails, Skype, basic Office 2010, Movies, internet browsing and YouTube videos. 3+ hours of battery life. Max price- $1000
Dad wants at least:
- Any screen size
- 500GB or bigger HDD
- Intel HD Graphics 3000 [Not a gamer]
- 4GB RAM or higher
- Optical Drive
- 4x USB 2.0 ports [3.0 preffered]
- Windows 7 64x Home Premium
- Core i3 or AMD equivalent
I will use it for light gaming [Fallout, Minecraft, Sleeping Dogs, GTA IV], Office 2010, Photoshop, HD movies, Internet browsing, YouTube, Music. I don't care about battery life.
I want at least:
- Any screen size preferably 14" or under
- 500GB or bigger HDD
- NVIDIA GT560M or AMD Radeon HD 7750 [or higher]
- 4GB RAM or higher
- Optical Drive
- 4x USB 2.0 ports [3.0 preffered]
- Windows 7 64x Home Premium
- Core i3 CPU
- HDMI Out

Refurbished laptops ok, but make sure they ship to Australia and have an Australian power cord. Online buying ok, I prefer Lenovo, dad prefers Toshiba.

Both seem like good choices.

Don't know. You'll have to ask B&H. Most likely you get cheaper shipping. But then you will have to pay GST since it's over $1000 an you will end up having to pay more. So my advice would be, if you decide to buy 2x Y580, make it two order of 1 machine to avoid going over $1000 and thus avoid paying GST.
