Laptop can't access internet, but all other devices can?

Hi everyone. Usually I don't have to come on here as I can usually fix this stuff on my own but this one has me stumped! Recently my elderly grandma asked me to fix her laptop because she couldn't connect to the internet. I took a look and noticed that the laptop said it had a strong connection to the router and access to the internet, but every time I try to load a webpage it will give me the "page unavailable" screen. The weird part is that my laptop and phone connected and accessed the internet fine, but for some reason her laptop can't. I brought the laptop back to my house and it connects to the internet and loads a webpage fine, so is this an issue between the laptop and her specific router? I tried everything (restarting modem and router, changing browsers, disabled all extensions, etc.) Any help is greatly appreciated!

Can you access internet by plugging in via Ethernet on her router? When you tried at home was it via wireless or Ethernet?

If you can use Ethernet but not wifi at her house and can use wifi at yours, I would first try to go under manage wireless networks and delete her router SSID and reconnect. If that does not work then try to uninstall the wifi chip from device manager and reinstall.

If wifi does not work at either place and uninstalling the device and letting device manager reinstall the driver does not help then I would suspect the card itself is bad.

Otherwise I would try to reset router to factory settings and reconfigure router wifi settings to something else then default SSID and password.
Also what is her laptop chip vs wifi router settings. If laptop is older it might not be compatible with WPA2, or AES encryption.

a customer of mine had the same problem but with his iphone 6. his tower & wife's tablet connects to the net & browser ok wereas his iphone is connected but unable to browse but can do that on other wifi spots. reset both the phone & the modem & still nothing. called the internet provider who walked us thru the same steps that I had just done & still no browse. he did some changes at his end to do with the modem & he was able to connect & browse finally on his home wifi.

I'm on Win 7 - spent ages trying to find a solution to this problem. Reinstalled drivers, flushed dns, released/renewed ip. Nothing worked.

Finally, I discovered that it the wireless adapter has power settings.

Solution:
Control Panel > Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > select Wireless Adapter > change from increased performance to increased power

Needed to increase power to adapter to compete with other connected devices.

That didn't worked for me. I am using wndows 10 but i did all the same but all in vain.Please let me know if you have any other options and i tried all of things that you did.

I have the same problem. Dell E7470 at work. The laptop connects fine at home via wifi AND on my wireless hotspot from my phone. However, at work the laptop will not connect to our wireless. So, since the laptop connects fine to 2 different access points (home and phone), you would think it is an issue with the wireless at work, right? Well, all other computers connect fine at work... including another E7470.

I have tried resetting the tcp/ip stack, updating the wifi driver, rolling back the wifi driver, etc. All of us at work are baffled.

I will be watching this thread closely as it describes my exact problem. The computer works fine everywhere else on wifi except at work, yet other computers including one just like it work fine at work.

Run Command Prompt as Administrator. Type netsh winsock reset and restart the laptop.
It worked for me

Didnt work 4 me I tried it twice and I'm still offline. My pc will show the connections available aND when it let's me connect to them it just says no Internet,secured. I'd what to do about this. Any suggestions?

Similar thing happening to me. iPad, phones all connect to wifi. Two days ago, started having issues with the laptop not connecting. I can't "forget" the connection and re-enter a password, as it doesn't give me that option.

I have reset the adapter, updated the adapter, and the only thing that works is resetting the modem and the router. HOWEVER, if the laptop is shut down and then started up again, once again cannot connect.

Took the laptop to the neighbor and it connects just find on his wifi.

I am beyond baffled and annoyed and at my wits' end. This laptop connected fine until a couple days ago.

The modem is rented from Time Warner because I've been too lazy to buy my own. It's got to be 13 years old. Is it possible that it's a modem issue? I wouldn't think so as the laptop is finding the router attached to the modem. Just won't connect. And the troubleshooting finds nothing that it is able to fix.

Windows 7, Belkin router, Scientific-Atlata Webstar modem. Toshiba laptop is about 5 years old.

UPDATE: I just went back to the laptop and no longer able to access the internet even though it says it is connected to the wifi. Same thing happened when I tried the iPad. But I switch the iPad to the 5mZ channel and it connected and worked fine. However, that channel isn't found by the laptop to even try.

I failed to mention that in May we got DirecTV with whole house DVR. It has been working without flaw for 3 months. Now that keeps losing internet connection as well.

Aaaaaand, I just went back to the laptop and it's connected and the internet is working.

ISP issue I'm guessing?????

But those settings are "maximum power SAVING" and "maximum performance." At least on Windows 7. Seems to me you would want maximum performance and not saving power.

I have read somewhere that newer end devices e.g. laptops on 812.n swamp older devices on 812.g and it mostly effects older routers.

I have actually fixed the issue at least temporarily. I changed the channel on the 2.4mhz band to a static one, connecting only the laptop to that. Connected all our other devices to the 5mhz band. Everything seems to be working.

Hi, I found this thread from a google search after having the same issue. I knew it was computer related because everything else on the wifi worked fine, however every time I'd restart my new custom built computer (which has worked flawlessly for a month now) the internet would work fine and time out after a few minutes while still showing a connection to the router. On top of that, my AVG scans would hang up. I tried everything I could on command prompt, power cycling, eventually resorting to restoring windows pre-"critical update" to no avail. I finally said to hell with it and reinstalled windows and everything is back to normal.

I know this probably isn't the answer you wanted but I hope it helps.
