I've been looking at a number of laptops for doing some graphic design and light gaming and found that the Lenovo Y40 seemed to be just about right in terms of price and performance (price is $870 right now: http://shop.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y40/?sb=:000001CA:00005717: )

The only thing I'm worried about is I've been reading stories of how shipping takes months and any follow up customer support is a nightmare. Are there any comparable machines at a similar price I could look into?

Thanks!

The shipping is pretty terrible. I first ordered the lenovo y410p in may and they delayed my shipment to june. I then called them about it and they said that it was out of stock even though it clearly said on the website that they had it. So I then waited another month and they delayed it again. I called to complain and eventually they gave me a huge discount on the new lenovo y50. (I paid $800 for the y50) They then delayed the shipment AGAIN. And now they said that I'll be getting it next week. So in total it took around 3 months to ship my damn order

I can't quite tell what you're getting for $870 because the specific models aren't showing up in my browser for some reason. This seems to be somewhat comparable, though:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152570

MSI GP60 Leopard-010 - $849.00
2.5GHz Intel Core i5-4200M
8GB RAM
750GB HDD
Nvidia GT 840M
15.6" screen, 1920x1080 max res, 5.95 lbs

Not sure how close of a comparison you're looking for. The Lenovo is lighter with a smaller screen. Battery life should be similar I think. If shipping is a concern, Newegg has always been extremely prompt with shipping in my experience. You can also search for the same model from a different retailer to see if you can find a better deal.
