I have a laptop Acer aspire 4937 and it does not opens even if the battery is 100% charged.my battery is ok.only is that I have to charge the battery when laptop is switched off because when plugged in while laptop is on it does not charge or even do not show charging.
Also I can on the laptop only by plugging the charger but the battery doesn't charge.when laptop is on.
It means that the battery remains the same charge say 60% even if I work for 2 to 3 hrs by plugging in the charger.
Please help me.

Laptop does shut down after few seconds or do you have a problem with the charger and/or the battery?

You should be able to sort out/narrow down a bit what the actual problem may be.

Have you tried booting your laptop with the battery disconnected and using a liveDVD such as ubuntu or knoppix (just for a test)?

Starting your laptop with a liveDVD does not alter your sw installation in anyway, so no fear of installing a virus (it doesn't even physically touch your drives!)

Once you do that try then to test your memory using

Testing that the machine is able to boot and that its memory is functional are the first "sign-of-life" tests I do while fixing computers

I don't actually understand because your title does not describe your problem at all. You are claiming that your laptop isn't charging but the title says laptop shuts down after a few seconds. If your problem is the tile then it could be a cause of overheating or a battery that needs to be replaced. If the main problem is the one you described in the first post then it could still be a bad battery.
