The laptop has a screen for 144hz. The external monitor I purchased is 240hz. When I connect it with hdmi and check it recognizes it's a 240hz monitor, but when I go into games it doesn't go past 144hz. My laptop doesn't have a display port, so I got an adapter to try the display cable but then the pc shows that monitor can only go up to 60 hz.
Using the hdmi cable it appears as though everything should be working properly it just doesn't show 240 as an option in games. I have a desktop that doesn't have this issue and shows 240 on all games. I'm not sure what's going on here.
