Hello,

I am planning on buying a new laptop for 2D CAD, 3D modeling in 3ds max, Rhino, Revit, Autocad, etc... and photo editing in Photoshop.

I am currently looking at:

ASUS G771JW:
Core i7-4720HQ
8GB RAM (max. 16 GB RAM)
GeForce GTX 960M
1TB HDD 7200 rpm
17'' Full HD IPS
3,4 kg
1000 euro ( I can add more RAM and SSD later.)

ASUS ROG G551JW:
i7-4720HQ
16GB RAM (max. 16 GB RAM)
GTX 960M
1256GB (256GB SSD + 1TB HDD) (5400 rpm)
15'' Full HD IPS
2,7 kg
1200 euro

HP Omen 15:
Intel Core i7-4710HQ, 4x 2.50GHz
RAM: 16GB
256GB SSD
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M, 4GB
15.6", 1920x1080, Multi-Touch
2,1 kg
1500 euro

Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7:
Intel Core i7-4720HQ
RAM: 16GB (max. 16 GB RAM)
1TB HDD + 256GB SSD (5400 rpm)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, 2GB
17.3", IPS
3 kg
1340 euro

Lenovo Ideapad Y 70-70:
Intel Core i7-4720HQ
RAM: 16GB (max. 16 GB RAM)
512GB SSD
GeForce GTX 960M, 4GB
17.3", 1920x1080, Multi-Touch, IPS
3,4 kg
1400 euro

XMG P705:
Intel Core i7-4720HQ, 4x 2.60GHz
RAM: 16GB (max. RAM 32 GB!)
1TB HDD 7200 rpm
GeForce GTX 965M, 2GB
17.3" IPS
3,2 kg
1500 euro

Comparing the specifications, I like XMG P705 the most, because only it can be upgraded to up to 32 gb of RAM. The only concern I have with it is the screen and its quality, since I can't find any review/information about it, and I would like to be doing some photo editing.

Any laptop above 3,4 kg would be way too heavy for me.

Another laptops I am considering (although a bit pricier):

Dell Precision M3800 Mobile Workstation
Intel Core i7-4712MQ, 4x 2.30GHz
RAM: 8GB (max. 16 GB RAM)
500GB HDD
NVIDIA Quadro K1100M, 2GB
15.6", 1920x1080, Multi-Touch
1,88 kg
1600 euro

HP ZBook 15:
Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 4x 2.40GHz
RAM: 4GB (max. RAM 32 GB)
750GB HDD + 32GB SSD-Cache
NVIDIA Quadro K1100M, 2GB
15.6", 1920x1080
2,8 kg
1680 euro

HP ZBook 15:
Intel Core i7-4710MQ, 4x 2.50GHz
RAM: 8GB (max. RAM 32 GB)
750GB HDD
AMD FirePro W5170M, 2GB
15.6", 1920x1080
1500 euro

I also cannot find any information about the HP ZBook and Dell Precision M3800 screens, which unfortunately are Not IPS.

Dell XPS 15:
Intel Core i7-4712HQ, 4x 2.30GHz
RAM: 16GB (max. 16 GB RAM)
1TB HDD + 32GB SSD
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M, 2GB
15.6", 3200x1800, Multi-Touch, glare, IGZO, Gorilla-Glas
2 kg
1500 euro

The XPS 15 is with 4k screen, so I think it would not a be very wise choice because of the scaling issues.

MSI PE70 2QE Prestige:
Intel Core i7-4720HQ, 4x 2.60GHz
RAM: 16GB (max. 16 GB RAM)
1TB HDD + 256GB SSD
GeForce GTX 960M, 2GB
17.3", 1920x1080
2,6 kg
1600 euro

The screen of the MSI PE70 2QE also isn't IPS, but should cover about 100% of sRGB, other than that, I can't find any other specifications.

So would the Quadro or the NVIDIA GeForce graphic card be a better choice for my kind of work?

I am really hoping that someone could give me some input.

Thank you in advance!

Thanks! But which graphic card do you thing is better for this kind of work, the Quadro K1100M, 2GB; the AMD FirePro W5170M, 2GB or the GTX 960M, 2GB (/970m)?

Thanks again!
