Laptop for Journalism? Help me!

Hi guys, i start university in a month (im in New Zealand) and would like a laptop for my course which is 4 years. I am also going to be carrying it around most of the time. I am doing Journalism so lots of writing is to be expected and also video editing. This is my first time choosing a laptop so am unsure. I've done a bit of research but want your opinions. The laptop will be used mainly for writing and video editing. Few questions as well, 14 inch or 15 inch? Dvd drive or no dvd drive? My budget is under $1000 as well.

I'm thinking of these;

a) Acer Aspire E1-572
- Win 8 64 Bit
-Core i5-4200U 1.6 GHz
- Intel HD Graphics 4400
- 4GB ram
- 500GB HD
- 14inch or 15
- 3 to 4 hours of battery life
- less than 5 pounds weight
- 1366x768 resolution



b) Toshiba Satellite U840W Ultrabook
- Win 8 64 Bit
-Core i5 1.7 ghz
- Intel hd graphics 4000
- 6 GB ram
- 500 GB HD
- 14inch
- 4-5 hours of batt life
- 3.7pounds
- 21:9 screen ratio + 1792x768 resolution

What do you reckon? All suggestions are highly welcome!

Go for the Toshiba laptop because the battery life is longer, has more memory and the CPU has a better clock speed than the Acer laptop Hope that helped
