Laptop freezing in games only.

Hello guys !

I came here cause I've seen a lot of topics with the same problem as mine, and you have answered it and solved it, so you know, might be the glimmer of hope I was looking for

Okay, so, I have a problem since 3 days and I have no idea what to dot considering it's a laptop and I can't find from where the problem comes from.
Everytime I'm playing games (and I'm playing LoL/Smite/DotA), my computer freezes during the game, for no reason, and It just stays like this until I reboot it. There is a weird sound going with the freezing, like a scratched disc.


So basically, I first thought it was a heating problem, but it does not seem to be one, I tried using a cooler, cleaning my fans and played with CPUID monitor on and it didn't show any explanation to the freezing.
I've reinstalled Windows, but still no change.
Now I'm lost, I've seen in some topics that this might be a NVIDIA problem, but no idea how to see if it's true, or a CPU, and this might be quite complicated to solve considering it's a laptop.
Any other idea, or solution ?

Oh yeah, I forgot, but this only happens in games, never happens when I'm doing something else on my computer.

This is typical of a heat and/or power issue. Can also be driver related. Are your drivers and Windows fully up to date?

Also, how hot is your GPU getting when gaming?

Usually overheating GPU. Mostly caused by dust infront of the cooler block.

Hey, thanks for answering.
I really don't think it's a heat problem, this is the first thing I've checked and there was nothing wrong with the temperatures. Mostly when you consider that freezes happen during my first game (and so when the CPU is not that hot). I can send you the reports of CPUID, but considering my computer is a MSI780GX, it is a computer heating a lot (70°/80° is the average) and so it won't show anything.

What do you mean by "power".
If it's a driver thing, what can I do to check ?

If it's so then, I should open my laptop and clean the dust in front of the cooler block ?

When starting a game, the GPU heats up in a few seconds. Do you feel a good hot flow coming out of the laptop where it should?
If not...probably its blocked by dust. I've replaced loads of Motherboards because of that problem. To many freezes might permanently kill your GPU.

Well, I actually have that flow coming out of the laptop. I take care of my fans often, because when I played Guild Wars or Tera, I happened to have dust that made my FPS go down critically every 10 sec. So it is normally clean of dust. By tomorrow I'll buy a screwdriver and check (I happen to not have one right now, shamefully.) and clean all the dust.
If it's not caused by dust, what other thing may be the cause of the freeze + crash (and usually, when it's dust, the game only freezes for a short while, does not freeze and stops like it currently does)
