Hello,
I have a toshiba a205-5804 laptop that stop working. it would not power up plug and battery light would be on and when power button is push nothing and battery and power lights would go out. will not come back on until battery and plug is remove. I took this laptop apart and tested motherboard it started so i reassembled one part at a time testing after each and when i pluged lcd in it would shutdown every time is lcd bad or some other problem the lcd did work one time i tried

Hello jusbigp;

Good job of troubleshooting there.
If it's just a bad LCD you'd be able to use an external monitor I should think.
Usually, with a LCD problem the laptop will boot but the screen will be blank.

I put laptop back together left lcd unpluged connect external monitor and it worked.
still don't understand why it goes dead with lcd plug to motherboard

Just a guess here, but is it possible there is a short in the lcd cable? Maybe if so the system detects this and wont boot so as to prevent damage

Besides the data cable GI_JONES mentions it could also be the FL inverter power cable to the LCD CCFL backlight.

Thanks for the suggestions read around a little bit and found out some toshiba laptops have faulty FL inverters will try to test it. if i can find out how if anyone knows any help would be appreciated thanks again
