Laptop Memory clocks and timings headsup needed

Hi, guys, I need some info-clarifying things about memory clocks and such. I have a HP Elitebook 8560w, with PC3-12800 memory modules, wich are supposed to work at 800 Mhz, but HWINfo shows that they are working only at 665 Mhz. There are 2 modules of th same type, no mixing. Any ideeas why is this happening? Thanks

1333 is the default memory speed. Your memory has timings which ALLOW up to 1600 (800Mhz). But that would be an XMP setting. You can see if your laptop supports that. But it might not, to limit power usage and heat.

All three of the memory controller, mobo and the memory needs to be able to run at the same speed, so whilst the memory can, can thote other components, have you even asked the system to run at the higher speed?

Thanks for the answers, kanewolf and 13thmonkey. Well, XMP settings, I dunno what that is. I never "asked" the system to run on other than default settings, I'm afraid I wouldn't know how to do that, I guess would be BIOS but never seen any options to change timings and such. This is a laptop, not a pc, BIOS is pretty simple, but I'll do a second check... About the heat: you might have a point with the limitations, since it already develops unbearable heat, but that is the processor, see my previous post:

So, if I want to upgrade memory with 2 more modules, than I should look for modules that run up to 800 or 665 is enough, since it doesn't run faster anyway? The essence of the question is: shall I buy PC3-12300 or PC3-10600 is enough?
