Laptop Mouse isn't working

my mouse laser turns on for a split second then turns off when I plug it in into my laptop. Why?

Is there a mouse listed in the correct section of device manager when plugged in? (might say HID compatible pointing device)

Is your mouse USB or bluetooth? Perhaps, low in battery now?

my mouse is a USB it plugs into my computer, and it doesn't need batteries

I plugged my mouse in today and it turned on for like 30 seconds then it shut off again
