Well, my Hp nx6310 is quite old now, about 6 if no more years since it was purchased. About a month ago the charger decided to give up by not charging the battery at all, I twisted the thin cable upwards and then BINGO! the battery was charging or at least trying to.
Anytime the cable went out of the right position, say fell to a horizontal position it stopped charging immediately and when it did I noticed the cross symbol on the blinking battery icon which eventually told me that the amount of life left was "0%" even though I charged the battery for 2 hours.
Last weekend I purchased a new charger from ebay which arrived yesterday. It turned out to be the AC adapter withouth the power lead, just the adapter with the thin cable. I still had my old cable so I just switched the adapters (NOTE that this laptop was purchased in Poland and the power cable is Polish) by connecting the purchased adapter to the power cable. I connected it to the power source, plugged the thin cable to my laptop and pressed the power button with no luck of the laptop turning on. After numerous times of pushing that button the laptop turned on to turn off back again at the Windows 7 loading screen.
So I left the laptop connected to the source while off and came back 3 hours later and pushed the power button about 30 times and when the laptop decided to turn on it took me to the logon screen, once signed in within 10 seconds of use the brightess kept changing from bright to dark and back again, I also noticed that the battery label on the taskbar kept showing the cross and charging lead back and forth just as the brigtness of the laptop kept changing and the same time. I realised that the charger just kept connecting and disconnecting either from the power source or the socket in my motherboard because the only time in Windows 7 brightess changes is when the user selects a different power plan or the power source it is connected to is disconnected. After a few seconds of the cross symbol appearing on the battery label showing that the battery life is still "0%" the laptop just shuts itself off.
I read that eventually laptop batteries fail if they are used extensively, but from my own experience I know that if a laptop is connected to an adaptor which is connected to a power source then the battery is not needed for the laptop to work.
I would be really grateful if someone would help me solve this problem as I have completely run out of clues or ideas which could me reapair the laptop.
