My laptop has shut itself off twice while I was gaming. I attributed these incidents to the cpu overheating so I was only a little surprised to see speccy showing my cpu idling at 90 degrees Celsius.
The cooling fan runs only for a few seconds during boot up then turns off. It doesn't turn on again until the cpu temperature begins to approach 100 C. This is even after changing power options to lower cpu maximum power to 70% and setting the cooling option to "active". I have taken the laptop apart entirely, applied new paste to the contacts, and re plugged the cooling fan. It still behaves the same as before. Furthermore, the bios for my laptop doesn't show fan information at all, and I haven't been able to find any manual fan control software that is compatible.
The laptop still runs perfectly despite being on the brink of overheating at all times. Just looking for suggestions and wondering whether or not I should just part this thing out while it still mostly functions. Thanks.
