Laptop power button shuts down the pc instead of waking up

I have a problem with my lenovo z5070 laptop.. When i but it to sleep and try to wake it up by pressing the power button its power and battery leds flash and then the device shutdown instantly instead of waking up.
Any Suggestions!!!

It's definitely switching itself off instantly, not going through the normal log off/shutdown process?

How long are keeping the power button pressed (in seconds) to wake it up?
