I have an acer laptop with a broken power jack and would like to get it repaired at a reputable company with reasonable prices. I brought it to a local shop and they said that they couldn't fix it. Does any one now of a good place to get it fixed? It cost me $40 for the guy to tell me he could not fix it. He sent me to a place that told me it would be $200 to fix it then the price dropped to $100 when I said that it wouldn't be worth fixing. Staples told me they would have to buy a new motherboard. My budget was $200 to get the jack fixed and to get a new battery.

That is actually a very common repair on laptops. Most places (that are willing to do it) will charge ~$100 for the repair (more if your particular jack is hard to find).
If you're handy with a soldering iron, there are videos on DIY laptop power jack replacement but it's not a beginner's project.

Tell whoever you take it to that you don't want a diagnosis you already did that at another store and he said it was a jack problem so you just want that fixed.

I've seen it happen where if you don't tell them exactly what you want done they will tack on an extra 100-150 bucks for a "diagnosis" which usually just involves opening it up and looking at it briefly.

I just had my Acer laptop power supply fixed and I was really impressed with the service
computerspecialist00@hotmail.com
The place is called Watt Service in Norhridge, Ca. His price is $49.99 for my acer. I was under a time constraint since I was only visiting in the US for a few days. We figured out it could be done, he worked on it as soon as it arrived and shipped it out the same day. From Milwaukee to California fixed and working perfectly in 5 days!
Use him - you won't be dissapointed.
