Laptop randomly slows down

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 gaming laptop and so far have had almost no problems with it. The only problem is that sometimes everything on the screen will freeze for a few seconds and then return to normal. This will happen when browsing chrome, using discord, or even when just going through the file explorer. The laptop has a core i5-7300HQ and a gtx 1050 graphics card. My old computer only had an i3 and a radeon hd 3850 and I never had this problem except when playing newer games so i'm unsure of what is causing this problem. Any help and advice is appreciated.

If the laptop is brand new and giving you any issues, take it back and have them exchange it. No new device should give you problems.
