Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, but have received great advice here in the past just by perusing random threads. I'm looking for a new laptop, and thought the Laptop Buyers FAQs form was an excellent starting point for advice. So here I go.
1. What is your budget?
$500 ideally, but could go to $650 with RAM/Graphics card upgrades if needed. See below.
2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
At least a 14 inch screen. Any weight will suffice.
3. What screen resolution do you want?
The lowest resolution needed for adequate gaming. See below.
4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Laptop will be used when predominantly while traveling, so that I can hook into my work system via Citrix. It is not a desktop replacement.
5. How much battery life do you need?
Most times, I will be using while plugged in.
6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
YES. I play Planetside 2. Low res would be fine so long as I could get 40 FPS on it. If I have to expand with additional RAM or a new graphics card to get there I would be willing to do so. However, keep in mind my budget. See above. Recommendations as to upgrades regarding these would also be appreciated.
7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Nothing high stress. General office functionality -- outlook, word processing, online access, etc. No graphic design, photo or video editing, etc.
8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
500GB should be enough.
9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
Open to all suggestions.
10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
At least 5 years.
11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
DVD/RW
12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
I've had a good experience with my Dell XPS 8500. I am certainly not married to Dell; all recommendations are welcome.
13. What country do you live in?
People's Republic of New Jersey.
14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
I think that's it! Let me know if you need clarification, and thanks for your help.
