Laptop repair after spilling liquid on it

Is there a step by step guide to determining the damage that is caused by doing this, where to start in repairing it, and what components to test and how to test them? Thanks.

The second you had the spill, you wanted to get the battery out, get it somewhere warm and dry, and if possible in with those silica sachets or rice.

After leaving for as long as possible, turn it on and cross your fingers.

No, I didn't do that. I was seriously ill, in the hospital, at the time. I have never had a desktop that I did not build myself. I thought to experiment with the construction of laptops by attempting to repair this one, one step at a time.

Best place to start is google how to open it. There are some great videos out there.

See where there's any liquid still in there. HDD can be tested externally, and RAM if you have another laptop, nothing else really.
