Laptop screen black

My Toshiba's screen is black when I turn the power on. I've tried what' I've read and that is the shift key,power key and the f4 key & still not coming on

Can you hear anything that tells you the system is running? Has the brightness Function key been accidentally turned down?

If you can connect it to an external monitor and press the relevant Function key, do you see any display on the external screen?
