This started about 3 months ago, I only use my laptop for travel so it is not used at home. The screen blinks off and then back on for a split second about every few minutes. When it started it might blink for a second once in 10 minutes but now it does it every 2-3 minutes, sometimes even more. There is no set timing, just random and only for a second.

The fact that it is getting more frequent makes me think something is malfunctioning and getting worse. It doesn't seem to matter if it is just turned on or running for some time and warmed up. As a precaution I ran the dust cleaning feature but that didn't seem to help. It doesn't seem to matter what programs are running, like ones that might use more resources than ones that don't.

It is a Lenovo Y70 and about 4 or 5 years old but gets infrequent use. I am running Windows 10 for some time and all the drivers to my knowledge are current. I really like this computer and it wasn't cheap so I hope to keep it up and running.

Does it occur more often when the screen is tilted at certain angles? If so, it could be the internal monitor connection. If it has ever happened before Windows has loaded than Software can be excluded. You could also go into the BIOS and see if the issue is still prevalent.

No, the screen tilted at different angles doesn't seem to make it worse or better. It shipped with the latter version of Windows 8 and I upgraded when 10 came out and was free. But that was 3 years ago and the blinking didn't happen until late last year around Christmas.

The computer was sent in for repair once while still under warranty but that was also 2 years ago.
